Milena Rose, or what is now also mentioned as SILAS is enhancing its 1:43 Renault scale models line.
Here is a list of Milena Rose Renault 1:43 models:
The price tag of EUR 89 per scale model places Milena Rose close to AutoCult model maker, at least price-wise. Quality of the models is good, but not always great, as some details are simply not there. It it certain that more skill, work and art was involved into building the AutoCult scale models, compared to Renault models of Milena Rose. AutoCult’s models are also a living story. It looks like they try to link pricing to very limited pieces produced (i.e. 50 to 110, as you can see from the above list), but realistically, do you think that more than 100 collectors will be happy to pay this price tag anyway.
Nevertheless, these Dauphine and R12 models by Milena Rose are quite unique and rare and some of the collectors will be happy to add them to their scale model collections. I only included two R12 models in my collection, and at a very high price – Renault 12 Alpine Argentine and Renault 12 Alpine. And here is the IXO model of the Renault 12, 1978.
Additionally, similar scale models (i.e. R12 for example) are available on eBay for a fraction of the price and branded under IXO label. (i.e. EUR 19.61 compared to EUR 89).
Milena Rose vs. IXO
Here is a brief visual comparison of IXO and Milena Rose “manufactured” scale models of Renault 12 Alpine Argentine 1978. Milena Rose has a little bit better and more consistent reproduction of the details, better paint distribution and better detail alignment. There are small differences, but in general models have very similar quality. There are negligible difference in the wheels design and in the side mirrors design (the registration plate of the car is also different). I am surprised of that price difference.
Below are photos of the models to compare, click to enlarge.
Do you think the price difference justifies the difference in quality?
